From theme park ride to feature film adventure
Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt are on an adventure in the first trailer for Disney’s Jungle Cruise, a film adaptation of the popular Disney theme park ride.
The film has been through a number of redevelopments, before finally settling on a cast of Johnson and Blunt, who star as Frank, a charismatic American riverboat captain, and Lily, a determined British explorer. Together they journey into the Amazon jungle in search of a mythical tree with amazing healing powers.
The trailer has a similar vibe to that of Pirates of the Caribbean (another popular Disney ride that got the cinematic treatment) with a lot of slapstick action and subtle references to the original ride. However, this may mean that the film itself won’t feel quite as fresh as Curse of the Black Pearl did in 2003, especially given how many ‘Dwayne Johnson in the jungle’ are out there at the moment.
Jungle Cruise is set for release on July 24th, 2020.
