Despite having already packed in a MCUniverse-worth of characters into their blockbuster epic, Joe and Anthony Russo couldn’t quite fit everyone in – and notable in his absence was Tony Stark’s bodyguard bud, Happy Hogan, a.k.a. Jon Favreau.
In an action-packed deleted scene, Happy explains to Tony (Robert Downey Jr.) and Pepper (Gwyneth Paltrow) the trouble he’s had in – quite literally – fighting off TMZ. The scene sees him chase down a photographer named Bert, who is played by none other than co-director Joe Russo.
You’ll be able to see the deleted scene on the Infinity War digital download (available now) or on the Blu-ray and DVD set (released on August 14th) but for now, EW spoke to the Russo Brothers about the upcoming release, and they mentioned the scene and why it needed to be cut out, when discussing Easter eggs:
“ANTHONY RUSSO: I think there’s another sort of Easter egg/cameo in the bonus/deleted scene.
JOE RUSSO: Oh yes! There is a deleted scene where Jon Favreau/Happy and I make an appearance in the park. The movie was really long and we were looking for places to pace it up in the opening and unfortunately that was one of the things we had to cut. But I was willing to cut my own cameo in the movie so it shows how much we really needed to get that park scene moving.
ANTHONY RUSSO: Yeah. It was also really hard to cut Jon as he is such a funny performer and we loved working with him.”
Sometimes you have to make tough decisions in order to make the best version of your film, but thankfully for us, we’ll still get to enjoy all the Infinity War goodness with the DVD/digital release.
