From the series creator
Netflix is tossing another coin at The Witcher, as the streaming giant has confirmed that they are working on an anime film based on the story.
The fantasy series starring Henry Cavill has been named the streamer’s biggest TV debut to date, and following that success, they have finally decided to develop the anime film that’s been in the works behind the scenes for some time.
Creator of the TV series, Lauren S. Hissrich and producer Beau DeMayo are working on The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, which will be animated by Studio Mir, the Korean company that worked on Voltron: Legendary Defender and The Legend of Korra.
“I’ve been keeping this one secret for over a year!” Hissrich tweeted after the news broke.
There aren’t really any details available at the moment, as Netflix only said that “the world of The Witcher expands” and this film “will take us back to a new threat facing the Continent.”
The title alone lends itself to a number of different ideas, particularly that it could reference Geralt, who is often known as the White Wolf, due to his ferocious nature in battle – he also comes from the School of the Wolf, headquarters to an old faction of the order of Witchers.
Season 2 of The Witcher live-action series is already in production, but the new episodes won’t land until sometime in 2021, however it wouldn’t be surprising if Netflix worked quickly in order to get the anime film out later this year to help fans cope with the series’ absence.
