Carnage loves company
It seems that Woody Harrelson’s Carnage won’t be the only Marvel villain to appear in the sequel to Sony’s Venom, as the second instalment is also set to feature a character named Shriek, according to sources close to the project.
A spokesperson for Sony declined to comment when asked by Deadline (who broke the story), citing the early status of the project, as principle photography for the project isn’t set to take place until early 2020.
However, the addition of Shriek would be a logical choice, as in the pages of Marvel Comics, the sonic-powered Frances Barrison is often shown as an accomplice and romantic partner of serial killer Cletus Kasaday, a.k.a. Carnage, Venom’s archnemesis. In fact, she was originally introduced in 1993’s Spider-Man Unlimited #1 as part of the “Maximum Carnage” saga.
Frances Barrison, originally a drug dealer, became the volatile Shriek following a severe trauma which allowed for her latent mutant powers to emerge. In the comics her powers include sonic energy blasts, flight, and the ability to stir dark and violent emotions in others.
Venom 2 is currently set for release on October 2nd , 2020.
