Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins has given fans their first look at Kristen Wiig as Barbara Minerva.
In her comic story, Dr. Barbara Ann Minerva is an ambitious British archaeologist who gains her Cheetah abilities after she discovers a ritual in the lost, ancient city of Urzkartaga. Other characters have since become Cheetah over the years, but Barbara has held the title since the New 52 reboot in 2011, and now she’s making her big screen debut.
Jenkins posted a photo of Wiig on the film’s set to her Twitter account, as she did with the first images of Gal Gadot and Chris Pine:

As well as showing off Wiig in her ‘80s attire, placing Barbara in amongst the animals in this way points towards her transformation into the animalistic supervillain, even if it isn’t yet clear how this will happen in Wonder Woman 1984.
It was previously revealed that Cheetah will begin by emulating Diana, before turning towards evil – an arc which would be in keeping with the majority of her comicbook iterations, presenting Diana with a vastly different threat than she has dealt with before. Let’s just hope that Jenkins will reveal a full-Cheetah Wiig soon.
Wonder Woman 1984 is set for release on November 1st, 2019.
