With its box office earnings still climbing, Patti Jenkins’ Wonder Woman has landed itself a place on the Top 5 list of the highest-earning superhero movies of all time.
As of Sunday (3rd September), the movie had earned an estimated $408.939 million in North America, with just $75,000 standing between it and Marvel’s Iron Man 3. And while it isn’t technically official yet, as of Monday, the list will look something like this:
- Marvel’s The Avengers – $623.3 million
- The Dark Knight – $534.8 million
- Avengers: Age of Ultron – $459 million
- The Dark Knight Rises – $448.1 million
- Wonder Woman – $409+ million
Wonder Woman has had staying power that’s almost unheard-of, dropping an average of 33% week over week through its 13+ weeks of release. Warner Bros. also took advantage of the lack of August offerings in IMAX in Week 13, by putting Wonder Woman in 2,210 theatres.
On an interesting note – Wonder Woman’s entry to the Top 5, shifts the balance from Marvel to DC, which now holds 3 of the 5 spots. Though Marvel still holds 7 of the Top 10, if you count Spider-Man films.
